[Title] Award by the UNESCO Club of the Department of Piraeus and Islands

 

[Article] New York. During his visit in New York, U.S.A. the President of the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands and Vice President of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA) for Europe and North America, Mr. Ioannis Maronitis, after the standard Divine Liturgy on Sunday, 05/03/2015 at the Greek Church of Saint Peter’s the Apostle in Bronx, awarded three important personalities for their offer and contribution to the Culture and the preservation of the Orthodox faith.

To be more specific, he awarded with a medallion His Eminence Bishop Melois, Mr. Philotheos, for his support regarding the permit for the construction of the Greek Church of Saint Peter’s the Apostle in Bronx by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America thirty years ago.

He awarded with a medal and a honorary board the President of the Church of Saint Peter’s the Apostle in Bronx, Mrs Marika Artoglou, not only for her 25-year contribution to the Philoptohon of the Church, but also for her five-year precious contribution as a President of the Parish Council of the Church.

He honored the well-awarded iconographer, Mr. Miltiadis Afentoulis, with a medallion and a honorary board for his contribution to the Culture, as well as for the preservation of the traditional Byzantine Art with unique artworks, with respect and faith to tradition. [Mr. Afentoulis was also awarded] For the spread of the byzantine iconography to the next generations by offering voluntarily iconography lessons to the Greeks in New York.

Moreover, Mr. Maronitis talked to the attendants about the actions of human and solidarity actions of the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands, while he stressed the importance of the social cohesion during hard times, to offer relief to those needed.

The Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands was [also] represented by Mr. B/ Moschou, who is responsible for the cultural events and Mrs. A. Sadora, who is responsible for theatre matters and many other people.
